On the SE Corner of Front and Spruce Sts. is the large Adelman and Ratowsky (A&R) Building, built in 1903 with several extensions added to the back (along Spruce) as business grew. It was a department store with clothing, furniture, and other goods. The store was labeled: “The biggest, best and busiest dept. store in Centre Co.” in the souvenir program from the Old Home Week celebration in 1909. The interior boasts a custom-made stairway and balcony. The front is basically unchanged and is the only cast-iron front left on the street.
